A Kick-ass New Year
NYE is coming up, and I am dreaming up my New Year’s Resolutions. I give myself time to really reflect and dream - how did this past year go? How could next year be better?
And so, here’s a snapshot of my process in hopes that it helps you envision a kick-ass new year:
Start dreaming. Just give yourself time over the next couple of weeks to dream big and expand upon it.
So many of us move from year to year in survival mode: solving, managing, pushing, and coping. And when life has been heavy, dreaming can feel risky, like a waste of time. BUT, please know:
You can’t create a better life if you never pause long enough to envision one.
This is the first brave act of change! This week, instead of asking… “What do I need to fix?” Try asking… “What do I want to feel?”
Here are a few prompts to sit with - no pressure to answer them all at once. Let them unfold in a walk, a shower, a quiet cup of coffee. Just have them in the back of your mind:
What drained your energy the most last year?
Where are you over-giving… over-doing… or over-thinking?
What patterns, habits, or roles feel heavy but familiar?
If this next year felt lighter… what would be different day to day?
When you imagine your best possible year: what stands out?
What would you LOVE?
What would make you proud?'
What would feel good?
What would “peace” look like?
If stress no longer ran your decisions, what would you choose differently?
If you gave yourself full permission to want more… what would you want?
You don’t need a perfect vision or a full plan with all the answers. All you need is honesty and:
A feeling…
An image…
A longing…
Change begins with giving yourself permission to see what might be better. If part of you whispers: “What if I get my hopes up and it doesn’t work?” That’s okay, you’re not promising anything. You’re practicing hope, and the steps will emerge once you start taking action.
So: dream, decide what you want, and think of 1 tiny little step toward it. Repeat. Repeat, repeat.
It can help to journal on what would a joyful year ahead would feel like!
